guided forest therapy
Penelope is a certified Forest Therapy Guide with ANFT, the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, following an Eastern medicine practice proven to reduce cortisol release, lower blood pressure and heal cardiovascular and cancer symptoms, conditions seen frequently in our modern, fast-paced lifestyles.
Forest Bathing, also known as shinrin-yoku in Japanese, is a practice that involves spending time in nature or a forest while immersing oneself in the natural environment. This holistic practice encourages individuals to slow down, be present, and engage with the forest through their senses. Penelope is certified in Basic and Wilderness First Aid. Forest Bathing can be experienced solo, or in small to larger groups of up to 18-24 people, with Penelope as your guide.
sound therapy
Sound healing is a form of therapy that uses sounds and vibrations to promote healing and well-being. Penelope will use sound bowls, blended with Native American drumming and flute. Certain frequencies and sounds can trigger relaxation response in the body, leading to stress reduction, lower blood pressure, and a deeper state of relaxation. Sound frequencies can influence brainwave activity, potentially shifting the brain from an active, "beta" state to a more relaxed, "alpha" or "theta" state. Studies suggest that sound therapy can help to manage pain through the release of endorphins.
Focusing on sounds can help to calm the mind, reduce mental clutter, and promote mindfulness, according to mindful.org. By focusing on the sounds, practitioners can enhance their ability to focus and maintain mindfulness. Meditation both and sound healing can support overall emotional and spiritual well-being.
private yoga sessions
Penelope is trained in Hatha and Somatosensory yoga, with a focus on developing strength and fluidity in movement, based on alignment and sensory connection. Penelope’s teaching encourages students to intuitively explore the uniqueness of their bodies and practice. This begins with breath. A key component of Penelope's instruction is the connection of mind, body, and spirit, beginning with developing a deeper relationship with the breath and connecting to its natural power as a tool for healing, transformation, and relaxation. By consciously and compassionately connecting with the body and breath, they become anchors to the present, creating greater clarity and awareness, which allows access to a simpler flow of life. Penelope’s intention is that her students leave their practice feeling a little less heavy in their minds and a little more open in their bodies.
